Briefly: in Joomla! 1.5 Authors could create and edit their very own articles (in a category) Editors could, additionally, edit articles produced by other customers and, finally, Marketers were the only real customers who could publish or unpublish articles. From version 1.6, article groups can grant a combination of ‘Edit Own’, ‘Edit’ or ‘Edit State’ permissions towards the defined user groups. A person might have ‘Edit Own’ permissions for many groups and full ‘Edit’ permissions for other people. ‘Edit State’ could be distributed to yet another mixture of user groups and groups.
